How to Bounce Back After a Shitty Day

I talk a lot about taking action and hustling with intention and really pushing your business forward, but I don’t talk a lot about mindset.

So today that’s what we’re going to do.

We’re talking shitty day mindset because it happens to the best of us.

You drop the ball and a client is pissed.

I’ve had all of these happen, and I can tell you from experience that it totally rocks your confience.

Having a shitty day as an entrepreneur shakes you to the core.

BUT… we absolutely cannot allow ourselves to let one bad day bring us down.

Remember, you’re a badass, and if you need to, stand in front of a mirror and say it to yourself!

So, how do you bounce back after a shitty day?

First of all, don’t ignore it. Bouncing back starts within yourself.

Step 1: Look Within and Reframe

Anytime I’m going through a challenging day, I ask myself what am I doing that day that could be causing that feeling.

I ask myself if there is anything I’ve done that caused the shitty day. When I know my behavior or one of my actions is the root cause, I can fairly easily learn, adjust, and move forward.

But what about when the terrible awful day is caused by something genuinely outside of your control?

In that case, remind yourself that while the situation might be outside of your control, how you think about it is within your control.

Allow yourself to process the day and all the negative emotions that come along with it, but look to reframe your thoughts.

How do you want to feel? How do you want to feel about that specific incident? What do you need to do or change within yourself to make that happen?

Step 2: Take Time Away to Reconnect

Take time to step away from what’s frustrating you to reconnect with yourself and practice some self-care.

That might mean calling up a friend for a coffee date, scheduling a virtual co-working session with your support group, heading out for a quick hike, or taking the morning off to read.

Whatever fills your cup, do that.

It’s good to be careful not to confuse self-care with self-sabotage. Focus on things that allow you to feel refreshed and rejuvenated and steer clear of negative indulgences.

Step 3: Decide What’s Next

Rather than let your bad day take the steering wheel, decide what comes next.

Remember, you get to decide how you respond to the shitty day, even when you can’t prevent it from happening in the first place.

That’s such a powerful thing.

You decide whether you’ll let it shake your confidence and throw you off track or whether you’ll learn what you can from it, reaffirm your boundaries, process your emotions, and keep moving forward.
